Preparation
Step 1
Choose young zucchinis - their skin is thin, so you don’t need to peel them. If using older ones, remove the skin and seeds. Rinse the chicken fillet under running water and pat dry with paper towels.
Step 2
Slice small zucchinis into even rounds about ⅛-¼ inch (3-5 mm) thick. If the zucchini is large, cut it in half, remove the large seeds, and slice into half-moons.
Step 3
Slice the tomatoes. Choose firm, meaty ones - soft or overripe tomatoes will fall apart during baking and make the dish watery.
Step 4
Cut the chicken fillet into small pieces. Place it in a single layer in a baking dish.
Step 5
Cut cold butter into small cubes and scatter it evenly over the chicken.
Step 6
Add a layer of zucchini on top of the chicken. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Step 7
Prepare the sauce: in a bowl, whisk together eggs, sour cream, and salt until smooth.
Step 8
Pour the egg-and-sour-cream mixture over the chicken and zucchini.
Step 9
Arrange the tomato slices on top.
Step 10
Wash and dry the dill, then sprinkle it over the top. Place the baking dish into a preheated oven at 350°F (180°C) and bake for about 30 minutes. Adjust timing according to your oven.
Step 11
Grate hard cheese. After 30 minutes, remove the casserole, sprinkle cheese on top, and, if desired, decorate with cherry tomatoes. Return to the oven for another 10-15 minutes, until the zucchini and chicken are tender when pierced with a knife.
Step 12
Serve warm with fresh herbs, sauces, or olives. The next day, you can reheat it in the microwave or oven - it will still taste just as delicious. Enjoy!
