Preparation
Step 1
How do you make Zebra Cake with sour cream in the oven? Prepare the ingredients. It is better to take the eggs and sour cream out of the refrigerator in advance so they can warm up. This is important for this type of batter.
Step 2
Crack the eggs into a bowl. Add the sugar. Using a mixer, beat them well until the mixture becomes light and fluffy.
Step 3
Add the sour cream.
Step 4
Beat the mixture again, this time on low mixer speed.
Step 5
Sift the flour into the egg mixture, after first adding the baking powder and salt to it. Remember that you may need a little more or a little less flour than stated in the recipe.
Step 6
Mix everything again with a mixer until you get a smooth, pourable batter. Divide the batter into two approximately equal parts. Let one part be slightly smaller than the other, because cocoa powder will be added to it.
Step 7
Add cocoa to one part, sifting it through a sieve. Using a spatula, mix this part of the batter until completely smooth.
Step 8
Grease a baking pan with vegetable oil; the bottom can be lined with baking paper. I used a 20 cm / about 8 inch pan. Using a tablespoon, spoon the batter into the center, alternating the light and dark batters. Try to let the batter spread evenly, without dripping or mixing with the other color.
Step 9
In this way, add all the batter. The portions that were added at the very beginning will spread toward the edges of the pan. This is exactly how the beautiful pattern appears on the cut side - in the form of colorful stripes.
Step 10
Using a toothpick, you can make a beautiful pattern on top of the cake. To do this, draw lines first from the center to the edges, as if dividing the cake into 8 parts. Then do the opposite, from the edges to the center, dividing the resulting parts in half again.
Step 11
Bake the cake in the oven at 180°C / 356°F for about 40 minutes. Check doneness with a toothpick; it should come out dry when removed from the center of the cake. Let the cake cool, remove it from the pan, and serve.
