Preparation
Step 1
How do you bake whole apples with honey in their skins in the microwave? You only need two ingredients for this dessert: tart-sweet apples and honey. At the end, you can add cinnamon for extra flavor, but that is optional.
Step 2
Wash ripe apples without dents or scratches under running water. You can choose any variety you like. For example, Semerenko, Pink Lady, and even Granny Smith work well. Choose a heatproof dish with high sides that fits the size and number of apples and is suitable for use in the microwave. It is also important to check in advance that the dish actually fits inside your microwave model.
Step 3
Next, I recommend trimming the bottom of each apple a little so it can stand upright in the dish.
Step 4
Then turn the apple over and cut off about half a centimeter, about 1/4 inch, from the stem side. This piece will also be baked, so do not throw it away.
Step 5
Using a small sharp knife, cut a shallow hollow in the center. This will be the space for the honey.
Step 6
To keep the apple skin from bursting during baking, use a toothpick to make several small punctures all around the skin in a random pattern. They will not be noticeable in the finished dessert. Repeat steps 3–6 for the remaining apples and place them upright in the prepared dish.
Step 7
Put 1 heaping teaspoon of honey into the center of each apple.
Step 8
Cover the apples with the cut tops and place them in the microwave to bake for 15 minutes at 800 watts. You can cover the apples with a microwave-safe lid, but in that case make sure it can withstand the long baking time. Depending on the particular features of different microwave ovens, you may need slightly more or slightly less time. Judge by the appearance of the apples: the skin should become wrinkled, and the flesh inside should be soft.
