- dessert spoon - 10 ml
- tablespoon - 20 ml
- glass - 200 ml
Preparation
Step 1
Prepare all the necessary ingredients for Turkish-style baklava.
Step 2
Sift 400 g of flour, about 3 1/4 cups, into a large bowl and add 1 teaspoon of baking powder.
Step 3
Add 1/2 teaspoon of salt to the bowl.
Step 4
Crack 2 eggs into the bowl.
Step 5
Pour 100 ml of room-temperature milk, about 1/3 cup plus 1 tablespoon, into the bowl.
Step 6
Add 50 ml of vegetable oil, about 3 tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon, to the bowl and begin kneading the dough.
Step 7
Pour another 50 ml of vegetable oil, about 3 tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon, into the bowl with the kneaded dough and continue kneading it for about 3 minutes.
Step 8
Shape the dough into a ball, place it in a bag, and refrigerate it for 1 hour.
Step 9
After 1 hour, take the dough out of the refrigerator and place it on the table, then roll it into a rope and cut it into 24 equal pieces.
Step 10
Shape each piece of dough into a ball and put them back into the bag.
Step 11
Sprinkle a little starch on the table and flatten each dough ball one by one.
Step 12
Roll each one out into a very thin, almost transparent round.
Step 13
Put 300 g of chopped walnuts, about 3 cups, and 100 g of powdered sugar, about 3/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon, into a deep bowl.
Step 14
Mix the walnuts and powdered sugar well together. The filling for the baklava is ready.
Step 15
Place 1 tablespoon of the prepared filling onto each round and spread it evenly.
Step 16
Using 2 chopsticks, roll the filled rounds into logs.
Step 17
Gather the logs on the chopsticks into an accordion shape.
Step 18
Remove the logs from the chopsticks and place them on a baking tray greased with a small amount of butter.
Step 19
Pour melted butter over the rolls and place the tray into an oven preheated to 175°C (350°F). To make the sugar syrup, bring 400 ml of water, about 1 2/3 cups, to a boil in a saucepan, add 200 g of sugar, about 1 cup, and 1/3 teaspoon of citric acid, then stir and simmer the syrup for about 25 minutes.
Step 20
After 35 minutes, take the tray out of the oven, let the baklava cool slightly, and pour the prepared cooled sugar syrup over it.
Step 21
Decorate the baklava with ground pistachios on top and, covering it with a kitchen towel, place the tray in a cool place for 8 to 10 hours so the syrup can soak in well.
