Preparation
Step 1
How do you make a tuna and egg sandwich? Prepare the ingredients. Any bread will work, I used a whole grain baguette, but you can use special sandwich bread, and regular rye bread will also be tasty. Canned tuna is tastier and healthier when it is natural, without added oil. 250 grams is usually the weight of the fish from one can. Use any lettuce and herbs you like or have on hand. I used frisée and parsley.
Step 2
Cut the bread into pieces. You can make small sandwiches, like closed tea sandwiches. Or you can make large ones by simply cutting the baguette in half. I chose the second option. That way they are easier to transport if the sandwiches are being prepared for a trip.
Step 3
Toast the cut bread on 1 side in a grill pan. You can skip this step, but sandwiches with crisp bread taste better. Do not grease the pan, place the bread on a well-heated pan and keep it there for a few minutes until lightly browned. If you do not have a grill pan, toast the bread in a regular frying pan, it is not critical. A toaster or sandwich press will also work for this.
Step 4
While the bread is toasting, prepare the filling. Wash the cucumber and cut it into thin slices.
Step 5
Peel the boiled eggs. Break the fish apart and remove the large bones. The bones in canned fish are very soft, but I still prefer to remove them. Put the fish and eggs on one plate and mash them with a fork until they reach a spread-like consistency. Add the mayonnaise. Mix well. You can skip the mayonnaise if you are watching your diet. In that case, add a little of the liquid from the can itself to make the filling juicier.
Step 6
Rinse the lettuce leaves well and dry them. It is convenient to do this in a salad spinner. If you do not have one, pat the leaves dry with paper towels or a regular kitchen towel. Wash and dry the herbs in the same way. Do not use wet greens, they will quickly lose their nice appearance, moisten the other ingredients, and spoil the dish.
Step 7
Place the lettuce leaves on the prepared bread. Spoon a thick layer of the tuna spread on top.
Step 8
Place the cucumber slices and herbs on top of the fish mixture.
Step 9
Cover the sandwich with the second half of the bread. For convenience, you can secure the bread halves with skewers. Serve the sandwiches. Enjoy your meal!
