Preparation
Step 1
How do you make a salad with tomatoes, mushrooms, and cheese? Very easily! Prepare the ingredients. Choose fleshy tomatoes, they always have a fragrance near the stem. For the salad, you can use button mushrooms or any other mushrooms.
Step 2
First peel the onion. Rinse it in cold water, this helps protect your eyes from tears. Cut it into small cubes.
Step 3
Wash the mushrooms well and cut them. For button mushrooms, thin slices look especially nice, but you can choose any other convenient cutting method.
Step 4
Heat the vegetable oil in a frying pan. It can be any refined oil, for example sunflower or olive oil. Add the onion to the pan and fry it, stirring constantly, until golden, about 3-5 minutes. The cooking time may be shorter or longer depending on your cookware and stove.
Step 5
Place the sliced mushrooms into the pan in an even layer.
Step 6
Add salt. Salt will draw excess liquid out of the mushrooms, and it will evaporate faster. If you like, add black pepper, garlic powder, or other favorite spices.
Step 7
Fry the mushrooms with the onion for 10-12 minutes, until all the liquid has evaporated and a golden crust appears. Then cool them completely.
Step 8
Wash the tomatoes, remove the stems, and slice them. I use thin wedges, but you can cut them into rounds or cubes. Choose tomatoes that are juicy but firm. Soft tomatoes do not hold their shape well; when cut, they will turn into a shapeless mass and spoil the appearance of the dish.
Step 9
Since the salad is layered, assemble it directly in the serving dish. Spread the tomatoes as the first layer.
Step 10
Evenly spread the mushrooms fried with onion over the tomato layer.
Step 11
Now spread an even layer of mayonnaise. Homemade mayonnaise makes an ideal dressing. If desired, spread mayonnaise on all the layers or replace it with sour cream.
Step 12
The finishing layer is grated cheese. Any variety will work: a classic hard cheese such as Parmesan, a semi-hard cheese such as Cheddar or Gouda, or a blue cheese such as Dor Blue or Camembert.
Step 13
Let the salad stand for 10-15 minutes at room temperature so the layers can settle, then serve it right away while the tomatoes still keep their freshness and shape. Garnish with freshly chopped herbs, parsley, dill, or basil, to add color, aroma, and freshness.
