Toast Bread Hand Pies (Apple-Filled)
Unusual hand pies with a fragrant apple filling! Toast-bread pies can be made with any filling - fruit or thick jam. Or try ham and cheese. Any version will be tasty!

Preparation
Step 1
How to bake apple hand pies from bread? Prepare all the ingredients. Instead of dough, we’ll use toast bread (also called sandwich bread).
Step 2
Wash the apple and pat it dry with a towel. Cut the apple into small cubes.
Step 3
Put a piece of butter into a skillet, place it over heat, and melt the butter. As soon as it melts, add the diced apples and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly.
Step 4
Add a little sugar and honey to the apples and mix. Keep cooking and stirring the filling until all the moisture evaporates and the apples become soft.
Step 5
Add ground cinnamon and mix again. Adjust the sweetness while the apples are stewing by tasting them.
Step 6
When the filling is ready, let it cool slightly. Meanwhile, prepare the sandwich bread: use a sharp knife to cut off the crusts all around so only the white crumb remains.
Step 7
Use a rolling pin to roll out each slice of white bread, keeping the square shape. Rolled thin, the bread becomes more pliable, won’t crumble, and is easier to work with - these are your “dough” blanks.
Step 8
Crack an egg into a small bowl and whisk lightly until smooth. Using a silicone brush, brush the egg wash around the edges of each bread square.
Step 9
Spoon 1 tablespoon of the cooked apples onto one half of each square, leaving the edges free (you’ll need them to seal). Spread the filling evenly. On the other (empty) half, make a few small slits with the tip of a sharp knife (I made 5).
Step 10
Fold the empty half over the filling. Use a fork to crimp and seal the edges all around. Repeat with the rest. For neater pies, trim any uneven edges with a knife.
Step 11
Line a baking sheet with baking paper and place the pies on it.
Step 12
Brush the tops with the remaining egg wash and bake in a preheated 190°C / 375°F oven until nicely golden, about 15 minutes.
Step 13
Remove the pies from the oven and let them cool a bit so you don’t burn yourself - the filling is very hot. Enjoy!
