Preparation
Step 1
Prepare the necessary ingredients for making puff pastry twists with sugar. You will need puff pastry. You can use any kind; I used yeast-free puff pastry. You will also need a little granulated sugar and just a tiny bit of water.
Step 2
The puff pastry needs to be thawed. Lightly dust the surface of the table with wheat flour. Carefully unfold the sheet of thawed puff pastry.
Step 3
Roll the dough out slightly with a rolling pin so it becomes thinner, but do not overdo it. The dough should be about 1–2 mm thick.
Step 4
Sprinkle the dough with sugar and carefully roll the edges toward the center from both sides. I rolled it from the wider side. When sliced, you get original little twists, similar to “ears” or “ram horns.”
Step 5
Lightly moisten the rolled dough with water and cut it into pieces about 1 cm / about 1/2 inch thick. Roll each twist in granulated sugar on all sides.
Step 6
Line a baking sheet with good-quality parchment paper and arrange the pieces on it. Try to place them some distance apart, as the dough will expand during baking.
Step 7
Place the twists in an oven preheated to 180°C / 356°F and bake until appetizingly golden. The exact cooking time depends on the specific dough, so check the package instructions, but it is usually about 15–25 minutes. Remove the finished twists from the oven and let them cool, then take them off the baking sheet and serve. Enjoy!
