Preparation
Step 1
How to make sugar-free dried fruit compote? You’ll need dried fruits and water. Choose any dried fruits you like - one kind or a mix. I used assorted dried fruits: prunes, raisins, dried apricots, apples… They’re sweet enough to give the compote natural sweetness. Sort the dried fruits and remove any stems or leaves, if present.
Step 2
Strangely enough, high-quality dried fruits often don’t look pretty: they’re very wrinkled, with spots, and can be quite dusty. This usually means they were simply dried without heavy processing. Pour hot water over all the dried fruits and let them stand for 5-7 minutes to help loosen dirt. Then rinse the dried fruits several more times under running water. Drain them in a colander.
Step 3
Transfer the rinsed dried fruits to a pot of a suitable size, cover with water, and bring to a boil. Then reduce the heat and simmer the compote for 30 minutes.
Step 4
Don’t rush to drink it right away. Let it steep. Ideally, let the compote cool down in the pot - this will make the flavor richer.
Step 5
Strain the cooled compote and pour it into a pitcher. I usually drain it through a colander and remove all the fruit. Then I strain it a second time through a fine sieve or cheesecloth to remove any remaining pulp.
Step 6
The dried fruit compote is ready! It has enough natural sweetness. If you like, add a teaspoon of honey to your mug. This compote is delicious both hot and cold. Enjoy!
