Preparation
Step 1
How to make sour cream tartar sauce with pickles at home? Very easy! Start by preparing the ingredients. If you like, add a little finely grated cheese. You can replace sour cream with mayonnaise or plain unsweetened yogurt. It’s also tasty to use equal parts sour cream and mayonnaise - just add salt carefully in that case.
Step 2
Hard-boil the egg, peel it, and grate on a fine grater.
Step 3
Shake off excess brine from the pickles and dice them finely. If they’re very watery, pat them dry with paper towels. You can replace pickles with salted cucumbers or fresh cucumbers.
Step 4
Pat the cilantro dry and chop finely. If you like, replace it with or add other herbs, such as dill, parsley, green onion, or a mix of herbs.
Step 5
In a bowl, combine sour cream, the egg, pickles, cilantro, mustard, olive oil, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Use any mustard you like (Dijon or whole-grain both work). If you want it spicier, add 1-2 garlic cloves pressed through a garlic press.
Step 6
Mix everything thoroughly. The tartar sauce is ready. Serve it with seafood, patties, or use it as a salad dressing.
Step 7
I served it with battered fried fish. Very tasty. Enjoy!
