Preparation
Step 1
How do you fry cheese in batter in a skillet? Prepare all the necessary ingredients. Hard cheeses, Parmesan, or even firm mozzarella work very well. In other words, you can use any cheese that melts well.
Step 2
Cut the cheese into pieces 1 centimeter thick, about 0.4 inch. Here everything depends on your imagination. They can be sticks, squares, circles, wedges, or triangles. The main thing is not to cut them thinner than 1 centimeter.
Step 3
Crack the egg into a deep bowl, pour in the cold milk, add salt and pepper. But when adding salt, keep in mind that different cheeses have different levels of saltiness. So taste the cheese before salting. Mix everything with a fork or whisk until smooth.
Step 4
Pour the flour onto a plate and place the cut cheese into it, mixing everything well. The flour must completely cover the cheese pieces, otherwise the crust that is supposed to protect the cheese will simply fall off.
Step 5
Dip the cheese pieces one by one into the egg mixture so that they are completely coated with it.
Step 6
Immediately coat them well in breadcrumbs. The breadcrumbs should be white and preferably finely ground - then the crust will turn out even, dense, and crisp. You can buy breadcrumbs at the store or make them at home from dried white bread or rolls.
Step 7
Arrange the breaded cheese pieces on the table and let them rest for 5 minutes. The coating will dry slightly and hold better.
Step 8
Pour vegetable oil into a small skillet with high sides and heat it well over medium heat. It is best to use refined oil, as it burns less when heated. Put the cheese into the oil and fry it on both sides for 1-2 minutes until golden brown. Do not place the cheese too close together, or it will be difficult to turn. It is better to do this in several batches. Line a plate with a paper towel and place the cooked cheese on it so the excess fat is absorbed.
Step 9
Serve while hot.
