Oven-Braised Cabbage with Mushrooms
Tender, with a creamy taste, simple and quick. Oven-braised cabbage with mushrooms is easy to make and does not require much time. It turns out very tasty and hearty. The dish will be more diet-friendly if you do not add the white sauce dressing.

Step 1
How do you braise cabbage with mushrooms in the oven? First, prepare all the ingredients. Sour cream can be replaced with heavy cream. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).

Rinse the cabbage and remove the outer leaves. They are usually damaged. Shred the cabbage finely. If the cabbage is tough, squeeze it slightly with your hands so it releases some juice and becomes softer.

Wash and peel the carrot, then cut it into thin strips. Transfer the cabbage and carrot to a baking dish.

Pour in 1/2 cup of water, cover with foil, and place the dish into the oven preheated to 180°C (350°F) for 15-20 minutes.

While the cabbage is braising in the oven, wash the mushrooms and slice them. Peel the onion and cut it into half-rings.

Heat a couple of tablespoons of vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat and fry the sliced mushrooms in it. At first, the mushrooms will release a lot of liquid. When all the liquid has evaporated and the mushrooms begin to brown, add the sliced onion to the mushrooms. If you add the onion first and then the mushrooms, the onion will cook in the mushroom juices instead of frying.

Fry the mushrooms with the onion until golden brown.

Now you can prepare the dressing. Mix sour cream and mayonnaise in equal proportions, add a mixture of freshly ground peppers and salt to taste.

Take the baking dish with the cabbage and carrot out of the oven and remove the foil. Add the mushrooms fried with onion and the dressing, which will give the dish a creamy note.
Step 10
Mix the vegetables and mushrooms well. Return the dish to the oven for 10 minutes. After that, the dish is ready to serve. Enjoy your meal!
