Preparation
Step 1
How do you bake turkey meatballs in the oven? Prepare all the necessary ingredients. If you have turkey fillet in the refrigerator, you can grind the meat yourself, which is even better. The recipe uses ready-made store-bought ground turkey. I used short-grain rice.
Step 2
First prepare the rice. Rinse it several times until the water runs clear, then cook it until half-done. To do this, pour cold water over the rice in a saucepan and place it over high heat. Once it comes to a boil, reduce the heat to medium and cook the rice for about 5-7 minutes, then drain it in a colander to remove excess liquid.
Step 3
Peel the onion. Wash the carrot under running water with a brush, peel it, and rinse it in clean water. Finely chop the onion and grate the carrot on a medium grater.
Step 4
Place the chopped vegetables and the ground turkey into a deep bowl.
Step 5
Add the rice next.
Step 6
Add salt to taste and sprinkle with your favorite spices. In this recipe I used ground red pepper, a little nutmeg, and khmeli-suneli.
Step 7
Mix everything thoroughly. Try rolling 1 ball. If the meatballs are difficult to shape and fall apart, add 1 chicken egg to the mixture and stir again.
Step 8
Shape the meatballs by hand into roughly equal sizes. The number of balls depends on how large you make them. I got 12 meatballs about the size of a fist. Place the meatballs into a baking dish.
Step 9
How do you make the sauce for the meatballs? Peel the garlic. Remove the seeds and stem from the bell pepper. Cut the pepper into small strips. Wash and dry the tomatoes, then cut them into medium-sized cubes. Leave the garlic cloves whole, if they are very large, cut them into 2 or 4 pieces. Arrange the pepper evenly between the meatballs in the baking dish. If you wish, you can vary the cutting style.
Step 10
Distribute the garlic and tomatoes evenly in the baking dish among the turkey and rice meatballs.
Step 11
Add a pinch of salt to the tomato sauce. If you like, you can also add dried basil. Pour in 100 ml, about 6 3/4 tablespoons, of cold water and stir. Pour the sauce over the meatballs, cover the dish with a lid or foil, and place it into a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F), using the top-and-bottom heat setting. Bake for about 30 minutes, then remove the foil and leave the meatballs in the oven for another 10-15 minutes to brown. Keep in mind that the baking time and temperature may vary depending on your oven.
Step 12
Sprinkle the finished turkey meatballs in tomato sauce with fresh herbs and ground pepper if desired. Serve and enjoy your meal!
