Preparation
Step 1
How to bake sockeye salmon in the oven? To make tasty, juicy red fish in the oven, prepare the necessary ingredients.
Step 2
Rinse the sockeye salmon fillet well under running water. Cut it into steaks of equal thickness (you should get 4-5 steaks). It’s easiest to slice the fish when it’s slightly frozen so the cuts are neat: if the fish is fresh, place the fillet in the freezer for 30-40 minutes (or a bit longer). If it’s frozen, slice it before it fully thaws. If you have pre-cut frozen steaks, thaw them in the refrigerator first.
Step 3
In a small bowl, mix fish seasoning, salt, and ground black pepper. If you use a ready-made fish spice blend, read the ingredients on the package - these mixes often already contain salt and pepper, so adjust to avoid oversalting or overpeppering.
Step 4
Coat the fish steaks on all sides with lemon juice and rub in the spice mixture. Leave the fish to marinate for 1 hour. The lemon juice will slightly change the color of the fillet - it will become less bright red and more muted.
Step 5
Shake off excess lemon juice from the steaks. Transfer them to a baking dish and generously brush with olive oil. Bake in a preheated oven at 200°C (392°F) for 15 minutes. If you like, you can leave the fish in the cooling oven for another 5-7 minutes.
Step 6
Remove the sockeye salmon from the oven. Place a small piece of butter on each steak.
Step 7
Serve the fish with herbs, quartered tomatoes, and red onion, and bring it to the table. Enjoy your meal!
