Oven-Baked Garlic Croutons
A simple but very tasty snack - like at a bar! These garlic croutons are made like toast, but baked in the oven, not fried. They’re great not only with beer, but also with soups. Try different breads and pick your favorite.

Preparation
Step 1
How to make garlic bread croutons in the oven at home? Prepare the ingredients. You can use any bread - wheat, rye, or rye-wheat. I used three kinds to compare which tastes best. You can use refined, odorless sunflower oil, but I prefer cold-pressed oil because it’s more aromatic. Or use olive oil. Preheat the oven to 180°C / 356°F.
Step 2
Peel the garlic and press it through a garlic press.
Step 3
In a small bowl, combine sunflower oil, garlic, dried dill, basil, Italian herbs, salt, and pepper. I didn’t have an Italian herb mix, so I used a pinch of dried rosemary and a pinch of thyme instead.
Step 4
Mix everything thoroughly.
Step 5
It’s best to use bread that isn’t very fresh - at least yesterday’s. Then it won’t crumble much when slicing and mixing with oil. Cut the rye-wheat bread into long sticks.
Step 6
Cut the wheat bread into medium cubes or into similar sticks.
Step 7
Cut the rye bread into sticks as well.
Step 8
Put the wheat bread into a bowl, drizzle with part of the aromatic oil, and gently mix. The oil should coat the bread on all sides.
Step 9
Add the rye-wheat bread to the same bowl, drizzle with more of the seasoned garlic oil, and mix.
Step 10
Spread both kinds of croutons on a parchment-lined baking sheet in a single layer.
Step 11
Put the rye bread pieces into a bowl, drizzle with the remaining oil, and mix as well.
Step 12
I didn’t have enough space for the rye croutons on the large baking sheet, so I dried them on a separate sheet.
Step 13
Bake the croutons in the preheated 180°C / 356°F oven for 15-20 minutes. Stay nearby - they can brown and burn on the bottom quickly. If your oven allows, use top and bottom heat with convection so they dry out and crisp evenly. The exact time depends on your oven.
Step 14
Transfer the finished homemade garlic croutons to a bowl and serve. After tasting, my favorite were croutons made from scalded rye bread. Enjoy!
