Preparation
Step 1
How to bake chicken fillet with potatoes in the oven? Prepare the necessary ingredients. If you use ready-made spice mixes, read the label carefully - many already contain salt and pepper, so adjust to avoid oversalting and over peppering.
Step 2
Rinse the chicken fillet, pat dry, and slice crosswise into pieces.
Step 3
Pound each slice lightly with a mallet, keeping the piece intact. Season the chicken with chicken spices, dried garlic, salt, and pepper. If you like, replace dried garlic with 1-2 fresh cloves pressed through a garlic press.
Step 4
Pour kefir over the chicken, mix, and marinate in the fridge for 1 hour or longer.
Step 5
Peel the potatoes and slice into rounds. Salt and pepper the potatoes, drizzle with 2 tbsp vegetable oil, and toss. I sprinkled the potatoes with the leftover chicken seasoning.
Step 6
Wash the tomatoes and slice into rounds. Choose tomatoes that are juicy but firm - soft ones won’t hold their shape and can turn into a mushy mass, spoiling the look of the dish.
Step 7
Slice the onion into thin rings.
Step 8
Grate the cheese on a coarse grater.
Step 9
Grease a baking dish with the remaining vegetable oil and layer in all the potatoes.
Step 10
Spread the onion rings over the potatoes.
Step 11
Place the marinated chicken fillet on top of the onion.
Step 12
Arrange the tomato slices over the chicken.
Step 13
Mix the grated cheese with the remaining kefir marinade from the chicken.
Step 14
Spread the cheese-kefir mixture over the tomatoes in a thin, even layer. Bake in an oven preheated to 180°C (356°F) for 40-45 minutes (exact time depends on your oven). If the cheese starts browning but the potatoes and chicken aren’t done yet, cover the dish with foil. Enjoy your meal!
