Preparation
Step 1
How do you make oven-baked beef with potatoes, tomatoes, and cheese? Prepare the ingredients. For tender, juicy meat, it’s best to use fresh beef or veal. If the meat is frozen, thaw it in the refrigerator on the bottom shelf. Choose tomatoes that are juicy but firm - soft ones will fall apart during slicing and cooking and spoil the look of the dish. Any cheese will work; I used a simple fermented cheese.
Step 2
Rinse the beef, pat dry well, and slice into pieces about 1 cm (about 0.4 in) thick. Pound each slice with a meat mallet. To prevent splattering, cover the meat with plastic wrap or a bag. Season with salt and pepper and sprinkle with paprika.
Step 3
Peel the potatoes and slice into rounds. Lightly salt and pepper the potatoes, sprinkle with paprika, and mix.
Step 4
Slice the tomatoes into wedges or rounds. Use juicy but firm tomatoes.
Step 5
Grate the cheese on a coarse grater.
Step 6
Preheat the oven to 180°C / 356°F. In a baking dish greased with vegetable oil (my dish is 27 cm / about 10.6 in in diameter), arrange the potatoes.
Step 7
Lay the beef on top in a single layer. Spread mayonnaise over the meat.
Step 8
Arrange the tomato slices on top.
Step 9
Sprinkle with grated cheese. Bake in the preheated 180°C / 356°F oven for 40-45 minutes, until done. Exact time depends on your oven. If the cheese starts browning but the meat and potatoes aren’t ready yet, cover the dish with foil. Try not to let the foil touch the cheese layer, or the cheese will stick to it.
Step 10
Garnish the finished baked beef with potatoes, tomatoes, and cheese with fresh herbs and serve. Enjoy your meal!
