Preparation
Step 1
How to bake apples in yeast dough? Prepare the ingredients for the dough. Use all-purpose (high-grade) flour. Warm the water slightly. Dry the egg with paper towels.
Step 2
Sift the flour into a wide, sturdy bowl to aerate it. This helps the dough rise well and become light and fluffy.
Step 3
Flour absorbs differently, so you may need more or less. Set aside about 1/4 of the flour in another bowl to add gradually. Mix the remaining flour with yeast, salt, sugar, and vanilla. Stir well so everything is evenly distributed.
Step 4
Pour the warm water into the flour mixture and stir with a spoon.
Step 5
Add the vegetable oil and stir.
Step 6
Add the reserved flour in small portions, mixing the dough with your hands.
Step 7
The dough should be soft and slightly sticky, but it must hold its shape and not spread. If it’s too wet, add a little more flour, but don’t overdo it so it doesn’t become stiff. Cover the dough with a towel and let it rise.
Step 8
After about 50-60 minutes, the dough will rise to 2-2.5 times its original volume.
Step 9
Punch down the dough and transfer it to a floured surface. Divide into equal pieces based on the size of the apples. Shape into balls and cover with a light towel to prevent drying out.
Step 10
For the filling, take medium apples - sweet or slightly tart. The flesh shouldn’t be too firm. Wash and dry the apples.
Step 11
Roll one piece of dough into a thin round disc.
Step 12
With a small knife, cut an opening at the top of an apple and remove the core, without cutting through the bottom.
Step 13
Place the apple in the center of the rolled dough.
Step 14
Fill the apple with sugar to taste, depending on how sweet the apples are.
Step 15
Lift the edges of the dough up around the apple, forming pleats.
Step 16
Pinch the dough closed like a “pouch,” pressing well at the top. Wrap all the apples the same way.
Step 17
In a small bowl, combine the egg and milk and lightly beat with a fork until smooth.
Step 18
Place the dough-wrapped apples on a parchment-lined baking sheet, spaced apart (the dough will rise). Brush all sides with the egg wash.
Step 19
Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C / 356°F for 35-40 minutes, until golden and the apples are soft. Time depends on the size and type of fruit. To check doneness, pierce through the dough on the side with a skewer - if the apple is soft, it’s ready. If the dough browns before the apples are done, cover loosely with foil. Oven settings may vary.
Step 20
I made some apples without sugar and served them with honey. Delicious! Enjoy!
