Preparation
Step 1
How to cook oatmeal porridge with milk? Prepare all the ingredients. Check the package for the cooking time. Use milk of any fat percentage you like. Besides regular dairy milk, you can also use plant-based milk. Adjust sugar and salt to taste.
Step 2
Use a thick-bottomed pot - milk porridge is best cooked in it so it won’t scorch. Pour the milk and water into the pot. A little water helps keep the milk from becoming too concentrated as some liquid evaporates during cooking.
Step 3
Over medium heat, stirring constantly so it doesn’t burn, bring the milk to a boil.
Step 4
Add the oats in small portions, stirring constantly so the flakes distribute evenly and don’t settle on the bottom.
Step 5
Add a pinch of salt and stir. If you’re making a sweet porridge, add sugar.
Step 6
Cook over medium heat for 5-20 minutes. The exact time depends on the type of oats - check the package. If the porridge seems too thin, don’t rush to add more oats: as it simmers, it will thicken a bit.
Step 7
When the porridge is ready, add butter to the pot. Stir so the melted butter is evenly mixed in. Remove from the heat, cover with a lid, and let it stand for 10-15 minutes.
