Preparation
Step 1
How to bake mackerel in a multicooker? Prepare the necessary ingredients. Peel the onion and rinse it under cold running water. You only need a small piece of lemon to drizzle the fish with its juice. Wash the lemon and pour boiling water over it. Mackerel is usually sold frozen, so let it thaw on its own at room temperature.
Step 2
Clean the thawed mackerel. Cut off the head and make a cut along the entire bottom of the fish. Remove the insides and fins. Rinse the cleaned fish well and pat it slightly dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture.
Step 3
Cut the mackerel into 4 pieces of about the same size. Drizzle lightly with lemon juice. Sprinkle with a little salt and spices to taste. You can use a ready-made fish seasoning blend. Let the fish rest like this for about 10 minutes.
Step 4
While the fish is marinating, prepare the onion. Finely chop the peeled onion.
Step 5
Pour a little vegetable oil into the multicooker bowl and turn on “Fry” mode for 10 minutes. When the bowl heats up, add the chopped onion. Fry, stirring occasionally, until the onion turns translucent.
Step 6
Once the onion is fried, turn off “Fry” mode and place the mackerel pieces into the multicooker bowl. Add a bit more spices and a bay leaf. You can add a few allspice peppercorns. Pour in water, set the bowl back into the multicooker, and close the lid.
Step 7
Turn on “Bake” mode for 20-35 minutes. The fish will fully cook in this time. If you prefer, you can use “Stew” mode, but it will take longer - about 40-60 minutes. The difference is the cooking temperature, so on “Stew” the fish cooks more slowly. Adjust to your multicooker’s specifics.
Step 8
After the set time, the multicooker will beep to let you know the dish is ready.
Step 9
Transfer the baked mackerel to a serving plate and enjoy. Bon appétit!
