Mug brownie
A quick and indulgent microwave mug brownie made with melted chocolate and cocoa, ready in minutes and perfectly gooey in the middle.

Preparation
Step 1
Place the butter and chocolate into a microwave-safe mug. Heat in the microwave on high (800W) in 20-second bursts, stirring between each, until the butter and chocolate have fully melted and are smooth.
Step 2
Stir the milk into the melted mixture. Add the sugar, flour, cocoa and salt, then mix well until you have a smooth batter.
Step 3
Return the mug to the microwave and cook on high for 45-60 seconds (based on an 800W microwave; adjust the timing for different wattages) until the brownie is bubbling and just cooked, but still slightly gooey in the centre.
Step 4
Remove from the microwave and scatter over the chocolate chips, if using. Leave to cool for 1 minute, then serve straight away, topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream if you like.
