Preparation
Step 1
How do you bake buns in the microwave? Prepare the ingredients. This amount makes two small buns or one large bun that you can cut in half. You can use milk instead of water - this will make the dough softer. With water, the recipe is lean.
Step 2
Take a bowl and sift the flour into it. Add salt and baking powder, and mix.
Step 3
Start kneading the dough, adding 3 tablespoons of water first. Then, as you knead, add 1 tablespoon at a time as needed. The dough should be moderately thick, not runny. I used about 6 tablespoons of water.
Step 4
Place the dough on a floured board and knead a little more. Then roll it out into a long sheet about 4 in / 10 cm wide. Use your mug height as a guide - you’ll be baking in it.
Step 5
Mix the sugar with cinnamon. Sprinkle the mixture over the sheet of dough.
Step 6
Roll the dough into a log. Grease the inside of the mug with vegetable oil. Use microwave-safe cookware. Place the roll into the mug.
Step 7
Put the mug in the microwave. Set it to the highest power. Cooking time is from 45 seconds and up - watch the dough. My max power is 750 W, and I cooked the bun for 3 minutes, checking every minute. Time and power depend on your microwave and bun size. My bun was very thick; that’s likely why it took longer. You could cut it in two and cook in smaller mugs.
Step 8
While the bun is cooking, make the sugar glaze: add a little water or milk to powdered sugar and stir well until smooth.
Step 9
The finished bun will rise a bit but will stay white. Don’t worry - the dough will be fully cooked.
Step 10
Turn the bun out of the mug onto a plate - it will slide out easily.
Step 11
I cut the bun in half on purpose so you can see it baked through.
Step 12
Drizzle glaze over the cut or whole buns. Serve right away while warm. A cold bun becomes firm.
