Meat “Hedgehogs” on an Onion Bed in a Skillet
Fun, “spiky” patties for kids and their parents! These meat “hedgehogs” on an onion bed are called “hedgehogs” for a reason. Because the rice is added raw, it cooks while simmering and swells a lot. The grains start sticking out of the meatball like hedgehog spikes. It’s not only fun - it’s very tasty!

Easy
About 30 min.
Preparation
Step 1
Prepare the ingredients.
Step 2
Peel and slice the onions. One onion goes into the mince, one into the sauce. The one for the mince should be chopped finer.
Step 3
Rinse the rice well under running water. Put the mince, onion, and rice into a bowl.
Step 4
Add salt and spices. Mix well.
Step 5
Shape the mixture into ball-shaped patties. To keep the mince from sticking, wet your hands with water before forming each one.
Step 6
Heat a skillet and add oil. Add the patties.
Step 7
Fry the future “hedgehogs” on both sides. Remove from the skillet.
Step 8
In the same skillet, fry the onion. I wiped the pan clean and added fresh oil.
Step 9
Fry the onion briefly until translucent. Add tomato paste and stir.
Step 10
Return the patties to the skillet, placing them on the onion bed. Pour in 1 cup of boiling water.
Step 11
Cover with a lid. Simmer the “hedgehogs” for 45-50 minutes. Turn them occasionally so they cook evenly. As the water evaporates, add more. Enjoy your meal!
