Preparation
Step 1
How do you make marinated squid and onion salad? Prepare the ingredients. Squid is usually sold frozen, so thaw it naturally in advance. You can use regular yellow onion or red salad onion; I prefer red salad onion. Any vegetable oil will work; I used olive oil. Prepare a small pot, pour in water, and place it over heat.
Step 2
Peel the squid and remove the insides. Rinse each squid body under cold running water. As soon as the water in the pot boils, add the bay leaf. Lower one squid body into the boiling water for 30–40 seconds from the moment it comes back to a boil, then remove it and place it on a plate. Squid does not need to be cooked for long, as it can become rubbery. Once the water boils again, cook the second squid body the same way. Let the squid cool completely.
Step 3
Cut the cooled squid bodies into long strips and place them in a deep bowl.
Step 4
Peel the onion and cut it into half rings. Add the sliced onion to the squid.
Step 5
Add salt to taste, vinegar, and vegetable or olive oil to the bowl. Mix the salad thoroughly and place it in the refrigerator to marinate for a couple of hours. During this time, I would also recommend mixing the salad several times so all the ingredients marinate evenly.
Step 6
Serve the finished salad chilled. It makes a wonderful addition to many dishes, such as potatoes, rice, and vegetables. Enjoy!
