About 30 min.
Preparation
Step 1
How do you make a kefir batter pie with canned fish? Prepare all the necessary ingredients for the batter. The kefir and egg should be at room temperature, so take them out of the refrigerator in advance, about 1 hour beforehand. Use high-grade flour.
Step 2
Combine the egg with the salt and whisk until smooth. The white and yolk should blend together.
Step 3
Pour in the room-temperature kefir with 3.2% fat content and mix until smooth.
Step 4
Add the flour sifted together with the baking soda and mix. You should get a semi-thick, pourable batter. If the batter turns out too thick, add a little more kefir or milk. But add it gradually, 1-2 tablespoons at a time. Then mix, check the consistency, and if necessary add a little more. If you pour in too much at once, the batter will become too thin and you will have to add more flour.
Step 5
Prepare all the necessary ingredients for the filling. You can use any canned fish you like: saury, sardines, mackerel, or pink salmon. You need one 250 g can, about 8.8 oz.
Step 6
Mash the canned fish together with its liquid using a fork. If the fish contains large bones or a backbone, remove them.
Step 7
Grate the cheese on a coarse grater. Use a cheese that melts easily and that you like in flavor.
Step 8
Hard-boil the eggs in advance, cool them, peel them, and chop them finely.
Step 9
Rinse the dill in cold water, shake it dry, and chop it finely. Besides dill, you can use any other herbs you like, such as parsley or cilantro.
Step 10
In a bowl, combine the canned fish, hard-boiled eggs, grated cheese, and herbs.
Step 11
Mix everything thoroughly.
Step 12
Grease a baking dish with vegetable oil. Mine measures 24 × 18 cm, about 9.5 × 7 inches. Pour half of the batter into the dish and level it out. Properly prepared batter spreads over the dish on its own.
Step 13
Spread the filling evenly over the batter, leaving a small border around the edges.
Step 14
Carefully pour the remaining batter over the filling. Place the pie into an oven preheated to 180°C (350°F) for about 30 minutes. The exact baking time depends on your oven and the size of the baking dish. If the dish is small, the batter layer will be thicker and will need more time to bake through. If the dish is wider, the batter layer will be thinner and will bake faster. So keep an eye on your pie.
Step 15
The top of the pie should become golden brown. Enjoy your meal!
