Preparation
Step 1
How do you bake patties in tomato sauce in the oven? Prepare the ingredients. You can use any ground meat; I used beef and pork. For the tomato sauce, I used crushed tomatoes in tomato juice. It can also be replaced with tomato paste diluted with water. Sour cream of any fat content will work.
Step 2
Remove all the crusts from the bread. Regular white wheat bread or a loaf works best, preferably stale, as it absorbs liquid better than fresh bread and makes the patties juicy. Pour a small amount of water over the crumb. Leave it for a few minutes to swell. Then squeeze out the excess moisture and drain it, and lightly mash the bread with your hand. You can use milk instead of water.
Step 3
Chop the onion in any convenient way. You can use a meat grinder, blender, or food chopper; I simply grated it.
Step 4
Mix the ground meat, bread, onion, salt, and pepper. You can also add any seasonings and spices to your taste.
Step 5
Shape all the meat mixture into round patties. Place them in a baking dish or an oven-safe pan.
Step 6
Mix the tomato sauce with the sour cream. Taste it, and if the sauce is not salty at all, add salt.
Step 7
Pour the prepared sauce over the patties. Spread it evenly over the whole dish.
Step 8
Cover the dish with foil. Place it in an oven preheated to 200°C / 392°F and bake for 30–40 minutes.
Step 9
Then remove the foil from the dish and bake the patties for about 10 more minutes, so they brown on top. Serve the finished patties hot, spooning the sauce over them, with any side dish or salad. Enjoy!
