Preparation
Step 1
Prepare the necessary ingredients for the pie. Puff pastry can be made at home, but it is more convenient to use ready-made store-bought dough. It is sold frozen, so before you begin, take it out of the freezer and let it thaw at room temperature. You can use either yeast puff pastry or puff pastry without yeast. Wash the apples to remove any dirt.
Step 2
Lightly grease the bottom and sides of the baking dish with a small amount of vegetable oil. Roll out the puff pastry sheet to fit the size of the dish. I use a small dish, about 25-27 cm, about 10-10.5 inches. Place the dough into the prepared dish and tuck it slightly into the corners so they look neater. You can use a ceramic, glass, or metal baking dish.
Step 3
Cut the apples into 4 pieces and remove the cores. Then slice the apples into thin pieces. Drizzle the apples lightly with lemon juice so they do not darken.
Step 4
Arrange the sliced apples over the entire surface of the dough. Two large apples were enough for me. If the apples are smaller, you can use one more. Melt the butter in a small bowl and, using a brush, coat all the apples and the edges of the dough with the melted butter.
Step 5
Sprinkle the apples all over with sugar. You can also use brown sugar for this. It will add a slight caramel note to the pie. Place the pie into an oven preheated to 180°C (350°F) for 30–40 minutes. Adjust according to your oven. During baking, the apples will release juice, and the pastry around the edges will turn golden.
Step 6
Remove the finished pie from the oven and let it cool completely. The apples will release enough juice, so if you cut the pie right away, the juice will run out. While it cools, the juice will soak into the pastry, and then the pie can be sliced easily. Serve it with tea or coffee. Enjoy!
