Preparation
Step 1
Chill all the ingredients and the serving glass before preparing the cocktail. Use dry white vermouth.
Step 2
Use a martini glass for serving. Chill it by filling it with ice or placing it in the refrigerator.
Step 3
Fill a mixing glass with ice cubes and leave it briefly to chill.
Step 4
Discard the ice from the mixing glass and replace it with fresh cubes. Pour in ½ oz of dry vermouth. Stir vigorously with a bar spoon for about 8 seconds so the ice becomes coated with the vermouth.
Step 5
Immediately pour in the chilled vodka.
Step 6
Stir for another 8–10 seconds.
Step 7
Discard the ice from the chilled martini glass.
Step 8
Strain the cocktail through a cocktail strainer into the prepared glass. Garnish with 2 olives threaded onto a cocktail pick.
Step 9
For a more traditional presentation, place 1 olive directly in the cocktail. Alternatively, express a few drops of oil from a strip of lemon peel over the drink and garnish the rim with the peel. Serve immediately and sip slowly, as this is a strong cocktail.
