Preparation
Step 1
You can use homemade frozen dumplings or store-bought ones. Take olive oil or any neutral vegetable oil. You can also add your favorite dry herbs and spices to taste. Sometimes I add a clove of garlic, finely chopped.
Step 2
Peel the onion and slice it into thin half-rings or slightly smaller pieces.
Step 3
Heat a little vegetable oil in a skillet with a thick bottom. Add the onion to the pan and cook for a few seconds, until it becomes slightly translucent.
Step 4
Add the dumplings to the onion in an even layer. Salt and pepper to taste and sprinkle with your favorite spices. I sometimes use a mix of Provence herbs or a pinch of khmeli-suneli. Mix everything well. Turn the heat down to low, cover the pan with a lid and let the dumplings simmer for 10–15 minutes. I had small dumplings, so 10 minutes was enough.
Step 5
After 2-3 minutes, open the lid and check that the onion and dumplings are not burning. Sometimes frozen dumplings release enough liquid during cooking. If there is no liquid, add 2-3 tablespoons of water and cover again. While cooking, stir the dumplings 2-3 times.
Step 6
After the indicated time, remove the lid, slightly increase the heat and, stirring, fry the dumplings to your desired degree of browning. Sprinkle the finished dumplings with finely chopped herbs.
Step 7
Serve hot.
