Easy
More than 1 hour.
Preparation
Step 1
How do you fry beans with onion? Soak the red beans in water in advance, preferably overnight. The beans should soften and swell well, and the skin may even split. But this is not required and depends directly on the variety. This time I soaked the beans for as long as 14 hours.
Step 2
Peel the onion and chop it into small cubes. Heat the sunflower oil in a skillet and fry the onion until golden.
Step 3
Drain the red beans in a colander, rinse them under running water, and let the water drain off. Add the beans to the skillet with the onion. Fry for 7 minutes over medium heat.
Step 4
Salt the dish to taste and add a Georgian spice blend. This Caucasian seasoning pairs wonderfully with beans, especially red beans. If you like, you can add other favorite spices or seasonings.
Step 5
Add 100 ml of water, about 1/3 cup plus 1 tablespoon, to the skillet and reduce the heat to low. Simmer the beans under a closed lid for about 30–40 minutes, until the beans are tender, stirring from time to time. It is important to add the water gradually, pouring in more as it evaporates so the beans stay juicy but do not swim in liquid, I used 200 ml total, about 3/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon. Depending on the skillet and the cooking temperature, the time may vary. Serve the beans hot. Enjoy your meal!
