- dessert spoon - 10 ml
- tablespoon - 20 ml
- glass - 200 ml
Preparation
Step 1
How do you bake fish with cabbage? Prepare all the necessary ingredients. It is best to choose a fish with few bones. Hake or any red fish such as pink salmon, salmon, trout, or Atlantic salmon will work very well.
Step 2
Peel the onion and garlic. Wash the carrot under running water with a brush, pat it dry, and peel it. Remove the dirty outer leaves from the cabbage, rinse it under running water, and dry it. Scale the fish, cut off the heads and tails, and remove the fins as well. Rinse the fish under running water, pat it dry with paper towels, and cut it into pieces about 2-3 cm, about 3/4–1 1/4 inch, thick.
Step 3
Shred the cabbage into medium pieces with a knife or in any other convenient way, for example with a grater, slicer, or a meat grinder with a special attachment.
Step 4
Take a bowl. Put the tomato paste into it, pour in 100 ml, about 1/3 cup plus 1 tablespoon, of water, and stir until fully combined. Add the garlic pressed through a garlic press, salt to taste, and, if desired, a small pinch of sugar for balance. Mix well.
Step 5
Cut the onion into thin half-rings and grate the carrot on a coarse grater. If you want, you can change the cutting style. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet, add the vegetables, and fry them for about 1 minute, stirring occasionally.
Step 6
Add the cabbage to the skillet.
Step 7
Pour the tomato sauce over the vegetables and mix everything thoroughly. Reduce the heat to medium and simmer the cabbage under a closed lid for 5 minutes. At this point, finish sautéing the vegetables and remove the skillet from the stove.
Step 8
Take a baking dish. Lay half of the cabbage in the bottom as the first layer, then place the fish pieces on top. Sprinkle them with allspice or black pepper, drizzle with freshly squeezed lemon juice if desired, and lightly salt them.
Step 9
Spread the remaining cabbage as the final layer. Distribute it evenly over the entire surface of the dish and press it down lightly with a silicone spatula.
Step 10
Pepper the dish if desired and place the baking dish into an oven preheated to 180-220°C (350-425°F). Set the oven to top-and-bottom heat and bake for about 30-40 minutes. The time is approximate, so rely on your oven.
Step 11
Remove the finished dish from the oven and let it cool slightly. Before serving, you can sprinkle it with freshly chopped parsley or dill. Enjoy your meal!
