Preparation
Step 1
How do you bake fish in cream in the oven? Prepare the necessary ingredients. Any fish will work: fillet or steak. Chilled fish is preferable because it is much better than frozen. If you only have frozen fish, be sure to thaw it properly. Right after taking it from the freezer, place the fish in the refrigerator for 8-10 hours, and only then let it thaw completely at room temperature. Use cream of any fat content, though 23% is tastier.
Step 2
Wash the fish and pat it dry. If needed, remove the fins and bones. If you have a fish steak, you can cut it in half. If you have fish fillet, cut it into medium-sized pieces. It is better to leave the skin on the fillet, otherwise the pieces will not hold their shape and may turn mushy while baking.
Step 3
To bake this dish, you will need a medium-sized ovenproof dish with sides. Place the fish into the dish. If you have fillet pieces with skin on, arrange them skin-side down. At this stage, you can add any seasonings you like to the fish: perhaps ground pepper will be enough, or perhaps you would like to sprinkle the fish with dried herbes de Provence or thyme.
Step 4
Salt the cream slightly. You can also use cream with a lower fat content, or even milk.
Step 5
Add the minced garlic clove to the cream. I put it through a press, but you can also grate it or mince it. If you do not have fresh garlic, you can replace it with garlic powder - add about 1/2 teaspoon.
Step 6
Grate the cheese and add it to the cream. The cheese can be absolutely any kind: hard, semi-hard, mozzarella, or even blue cheese.
Step 7
Pour the cream sauce over the fish. For aroma, you can add a sprig of fresh thyme or rosemary, or any other fresh herbs. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for about 30 minutes. For the first 15 minutes, you can cover the dish with foil.
Step 8
The fish is tender and juicy, so serve it immediately while hot. Enjoy your meal!
