Preparation
Step 1
How to cook eggs in the microwave? First, prepare everything you need. Use eggs at room temperature - if they’re cold, they may explode. If this is your first time, start with one egg to find the right power level and cooking time for your microwave, since it can be risky - eggs may explode.
Step 2
Take a microwave-safe bowl, place the eggs inside, and add salt - this helps prevent the shells from cracking and the eggs from exploding.
Step 3
Boil water and pour it over the eggs; the water must completely cover them. You can also use cold water, but then the cooking time will change.
Step 4
Put the bowl with the eggs into the microwave. Always account for your microwave’s specifics and choose time and power individually. Be prepared that some eggs may explode, so stay nearby so you can switch the microwave off in time.
Step 5
Cover the bowl with a microwave-safe lid (or a lid that fits the bowl). Microwave for about 5 minutes; it’s better to use no more than 600 W if you want jammy, “in-the-shell” eggs. For hard-boiled eggs, cook about 7-10 minutes; for soft-boiled, about 2 minutes. Times and power are approximate and will vary by microwave.
Step 6
Transfer the cooked eggs to a bowl of cold water - this cools them faster and makes them easier to peel. Keep in mind that if you’re cooking just one egg, the time will be much shorter (adjust individually!).
Step 7
That’s how you can cook eggs in the microwave in their shells, in water. Happy cooking and enjoy your meal!
