Preparation
Step 1
How do you make classic vinaigrette dressing with mustard? Add salt, sugar, and mustard to a sauce boat. I used hot mustard, but in general any mustard you like or have on hand will work. Adjust the amount depending on how spicy the mustard is - use more if it is milder. You may also skip the salt in the dressing and season the salad to taste directly in the salad bowl.
Step 2
Add the next ingredient to the sauce boat - wine vinegar. It can be either white or red, there is no difference. Besides wine vinegar, you can also use apple cider vinegar or lemon juice.
Step 3
Next add the sunflower oil. Aromatic sunflower oil works especially well. It gives the dressing a richer, more distinctive flavor. If you do not like that kind of oil, refined sunflower oil will also work. The dressing will also be delicious with olive oil.
Step 4
And the final step is hot ground pepper. I use ground black pepper. Freshly ground pepper is even better, as it is much more aromatic.
Step 5
Mix the dressing. Please note that mustard, vinegar, and oil have different densities. Because of this, the mustard will always settle to the bottom of the sauce boat under its own weight. So it is unlikely that you will be able to mix the dressing until completely smooth. At this point, the dressing is ready. All that remains is to dress the vinaigrette and serve it. Enjoy your meal!
