About 20 min.
Preparation
Step 1
Take a whole chicken or its parts - you’ll need to cut them into serving-sized pieces. Prepare sour cream, vegetable oil, garlic, carrot, spices, and salt.
Step 2
Cut the chicken into pieces and season with salt, pepper, or chicken spices.
Step 3
Heat oil in a skillet over high heat. Quickly sear the chicken pieces on all sides until lightly golden. The goal is not to fully cook them but to seal in the juices.
Step 4
Peel and slice the garlic into large thin pieces.
Step 5
Cut the carrot into thick strips.
Step 6
Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside. In the same oil and rendered fat, sauté the garlic and carrot until fragrant.
Step 7
Add sour cream and a bit of water (the original recipe uses milk, but water works better - milk may curdle if overheated).
Step 8
Let the sauce simmer briefly, season with salt and pepper to taste.
Step 9
Return the seared chicken pieces to the skillet, cover with a lid, and simmer over low heat for about 30 minutes, until the chicken is tender.
Step 10
Chicken in sour cream and garlic sauce is ready! Serve hot with your favorite side dish and fresh herbs.
