Preparation
Step 1
How do you make canned peaches for winter at home? Prepare all the necessary ingredients. Choose firm fruit that is not overripe so it holds its shape well and does not turn mushy. Before using, wash the fruit well, preferably with a special brush and fruit wash.
Step 2
Dry the washed peaches, remove the pits, and cut them into medium-sized slices.
Step 3
Wash the jars well, preferably with baking soda and salt, and sterilize them. I put a spoon into each jar, pour in boiling water, leave it for about 10 minutes, and then pour the water out. The lids only need to be boiled.
Step 4
Pack the sliced peaches tightly into the jar.
Step 5
Pour boiling water over them, cover loosely with a lid, and leave for about 10 minutes.
Step 6
Drain the water and add sugar to it. Use 3 tablespoons of sugar for 1 cup of water. You should get a fairly sweet syrup. While the syrup is heating, you can add spices to the jar with the peaches. This could be a vanilla pod, a cinnamon stick, or a star anise pod. These same spices can also be used in ground form.
Step 7
Bring the syrup to a boil. Boil it for 2–3 minutes.
Step 8
Pour the syrup into the jar right up to the top. Close or seal the lids, turn the jars upside down, and leave them until completely cool. The peaches will be ready to eat in about 10 days. Peaches canned in syrup keep very well under normal home conditions and do not require refrigeration.
Step 9
You can serve these fruits with ice cream or use them to decorate cakes and other desserts. The fruit syrup is also useful for soaking sponge cakes, as well as for ice cream and various drinks. Enjoy your meal!
