Bean, Tomato, Cheese, and Crouton Salad
Very simple and quick, made from everyday ingredients. Bean, tomato, cheese, and crouton salad is a recipe that proves a hearty salad can be made without meat. Here, that role is played by protein-rich canned beans. The salad is suitable for both weekdays and holidays.

Step 1
How do you make a salad with beans, tomatoes, cheese, and croutons? Prepare all the necessary ingredients for the salad. You can use canned white beans, red beans, or a mix of both. It also works well with green beans, but they will need to be boiled in salted water until tender beforehand.
Step 2
Drain all the liquid from the canned beans and place the beans in a colander. It is best to rinse the beans with cold water to remove the remaining thick liquid. Dry the rinsed beans.

You can use store-bought croutons and vary the flavor of your salad depending on their seasonings, or make the croutons yourself. The croutons can be made from white or dark bread, whichever you prefer. However, wheat croutons soften faster in the salad, so I always prefer rye bread. How do you make the croutons? Cut the rye bread into small sticks and dry them on a baking sheet in the oven at 180°C (350°F) for 15-20 minutes. Cool the finished croutons.
Step 4
Wash the tomatoes, dry them, and cut them into sticks. For this salad, choose flesh tomatoes that are not too watery. If the tomatoes contain too much liquid, it is better to remove the center with the seeds first and only then cut the flesh into sticks.
Step 5
Cut the cheese into thin strips. If you wish, you can grate the cheese instead. I prefer cutting it into strips to create some uniformity, since the tomatoes and croutons are also cut into sticks. Above all, choose tasty, good-quality cheese without milk fat substitutes.
Step 6
Wash the herbs, dry them, and chop them finely.
Step 7
In a salad bowl, combine the tomatoes, canned red beans, cheese, croutons, and herbs. Dress the salad with mayonnaise. If you wish, you can add salt and pepper, but personally I very rarely add spices to salads with mayonnaise.
Step 8
Mix everything thoroughly and serve immediately. Enjoy your meal! If you do not plan to serve the salad right away or within the next 10–15 minutes, it is better not to add the croutons and mayonnaise yet. The croutons will quickly soften and lose their crunch. This happens especially fast with wheat croutons.
