Baked Egg in a Bread Roll

Preparation
Step 1
Prepare all the necessary ingredients. Use farm eggs, or at least large eggs. Such eggs are not only bigger and tastier, but they also usually have a bright orange yolk, so your dish will turn out even more beautiful. The bread roll should be a wheat roll, unsweetened, with the neutral flavor of white bread. Any cheese will work: hard cheeses, semi-hard cheeses, as well as mozzarella and even blue cheese.

The bread roll does not have to be very fresh and soft. On the contrary, a roll that has already started to go stale is easier to cut. In the center of the roll, make a hollow with a sharp knife or a spoon with a sharp edge, such as an ice cream scoop, about large enough to fit 1 egg.
Step 3
Cut the butter into cubes and place it into the hollow in the roll. The butter can be replaced with any vegetable oil and brushed inside the roll with a silicone brush. For a more filling version, you can also add pieces of bacon, sausage, mushrooms, or even chicken or meat.
Step 4
Carefully crack the egg into the hollow in the roll so that the yolk stays whole. However, it is not necessary to keep the yolk intact, do it as you prefer. You can also beat the egg with a fork in a separate dish first and then pour it into the roll.
Step 5
Salt the egg. At this stage, you can also add pepper or your favorite seasonings: garlic powder, a pinch of herbes de Provence, or paprika. It is all a matter of taste.
Step 6
Grate the cheese and sprinkle it over the egg. If you are using blue cheese, simply break it into small pieces. If using mozzarella, tear it by hand. Bake the roll with the egg in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for about 15-20 minutes, until the yolk reaches your desired doneness.

Serve the dish for breakfast with fresh seasonal vegetables and herbs. Enjoy your meal!
