Preparation
Step 1
You can use only thighs or only drumsticks, or divide whole legs into two parts. If needed, singe off any stray feathers. Pat the chicken dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
Step 2
Wash the apples, dry them, and slice them. Which apples work best? Sweet or sweet-tart varieties are ideal. I usually choose sweet ones. Place the chicken legs and apples into a deep bowl.
Step 3
Peel the onion and garlic, dry them, and slice the onion into thick strips. Cut the garlic cloves in halves or quarters. Add them to the chicken and apples. Season with salt and spices. Use any spice mix you enjoy - rosemary, Provençal herbs, black and red pepper, or a poultry seasoning blend.
Step 4
Add neutral vegetable oil and mix everything thoroughly. Let stand for 10-15 minutes. Mix again, then spread evenly inside an oven bag. Make several small holes in the bag with a toothpick to allow air to escape during baking. Place the bag on a baking sheet and transfer to the oven. Bake until the chicken is fully cooked. (Bake at 360–375°F / ~180–190°C.)
Step 5
Carefully cut open the top of the bag (avoid steam burns!) and return the chicken to the oven for another 5-10 minutes to brown the top. Serve hot!
