Baked apples with dried fruits
Tender baked apples filled with spiced fruit, orange, and caramelised juices - a warm, comforting dessert.

Preparation
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 220°C. Melt the butter in a small pan over medium–low heat, then remove from the heat and stir in the orange zest, orange juice, sugar, and spices. Mix well and add the dried fruit, combining thoroughly before setting aside.
Step 2
Core the apples about three-quarters of the way through to form cavities for the filling (or slice the top of). Arrange the apples, cored side up, in a deep roasting tray so they fit snugly together. Spoon the spiced fruit mixture into the centres, allowing some to spill over - this will create a rich, spiced caramel as the apples bake and release their juices.
Step 3
Place the tray on the bottom shelf of the oven and bake for 20 minutes, or until the apples are soft and tender.
Step 4
Serve warm, drizzled with the aromatic roasting juices.
