Preparation
Step 1
How to make Viennese-style apple waffles in a waffle maker? First, prepare the ingredients from the list. Take the milk out of the fridge in advance - it should be at room temperature. You can replace regular flour with any gluten-free flour (corn, oat, rice, etc.), but keep in mind you may need more or less depending on the flour.
Step 2
In a bowl, combine eggs, room-temperature milk, sugar, and vanilla sugar. Whisk until smooth. Adjust the sugar depending on how sweet the apples are - use less if the apples are sweet.
Step 3
Pour in the vegetable oil and mix.
Step 4
Add the flour sifted together with baking powder. Sifting helps aerate the flour so the waffles turn out lighter. Mix the batter well, breaking up any lumps. The batter should be like pancake batter. If it’s too thick, add more milk. If it’s too thin, add a little more flour - go by consistency.
Step 5
Core and peel the apples. Grate them on a coarse grater. To keep them from browning, you can drizzle with lemon juice. Choose juicy sweet-tart apples with a bright flavor (for example, Granny Smith). The deeper green the peel, the longer they tend not to brown.
Step 6
Add the apples to the batter and mix well.
Step 7
Preheat the electric waffle maker. Spoon a little batter into the center and close the lid. Bake for 5-7 minutes until golden. The time is approximate - adjust to your appliance. If the waffles stick, lightly brush the plates with vegetable oil before each waffle.
Step 8
Transfer the finished Viennese apple waffles to a plate and serve dusted with powdered sugar. You can also bake these waffles in a multi-baker. Enjoy!
