Preparation
Step 1
How do you cook 5-minute blueberry jam? Prepare the ingredients. You need only two: blueberries and sugar. No water is needed!
Step 2
Sort the blueberries, removing leaves and any forest debris. Rinse the berries well in cold water. Drain in a colander and leave for a while so excess moisture drips off.
Step 3
Put the berries into a large bowl and sprinkle with sugar. Gently shake the bowl so the sugar spreads more evenly between the berries. Don’t add all the sugar at once - if the berries are sweet, you may need less than listed. You can always add more later. Leave the sugared berries for a few hours to release their juice. To speed this up, lightly press some berries with a spoon.
Step 4
Mix the berries with the sugar and transfer everything to the pot where you’ll cook the jam.
Step 5
It’s best to use an enamel pot. Avoid aluminum so the metal doesn’t react with the berry juice. Bring the berries to a boil and stir until all the sugar dissolves. Taste - add a little more sugar if needed. Simmer the jam for 5 minutes, stirring. In this time, the sugar will dissolve and the tender berries will soften.
Step 6
Prepare jars for the jam: wash and rinse them. Sterilize the jars in any convenient way - microwave, oven, or over steam. It’s enough to pour boiling water over the lids and set them aside to dry.
Step 7
Pour the jam into the prepared sterilized jars and seal tightly. Turn the closed jars upside down and check for leaks. Wrap the jars in a warm blanket and let them cool completely. Wrapping helps the jam cool as slowly as possible, finishing the process as it cools.
Step 8
Store the finished jam in a cellar or another cool place. Enjoy your winter treat!
